Like a huge motorized fishing boat, motorboat, or anything with a motor and no sails. What would you call water-treading in one of those?
Okay, I guess I must rephrase that.
If you set sail with a sailboat, what do you do with a motorboat?

Boating, though that consists of sailing.
I guess you could use "motorboating".

There are many terms but what comes to my mind first is (in no particular order):
Motoring
Boating
Motor Boating
Power Boating
It’s still referd to as sailing or boating. Departing in a motorboat could be refered to as: casting off, getting underway, un mooring, steaming. (less used in smaller boats)
“Boating” or “Cruising”
The equivalent to setting sail on a sail boat is engaging the engine(s) on a motorboat.
Sailor: “We set sail.”
Power boater “We engaged the engine(s).”
Motoring or power boating is what we call that activity around here if the boat has no sails. There are more sailboats docked in our area that power boats. On a nice sunshiny summer day with no wind, there will be more power boats motoring around than sail boats on the bay. Many sailboats do have an engine, and they are able to motor around also if they so wish. If a sail boat has their sails set and also has the engine running, that is called steaming or motor sailing.
